HASS

2010

Buch: Mathieu Kassovitz

After their award-winning production "Ein Warngedicht" (BRÜDER-GRIMM-PREIS 2009) Branka Prlic and Tamer Yigit adapt for the theatre the film "Hate" (1995) by French director Mathieu Kassovitz.

"This is the story of a man who fell from the 50th floor of a high-rise building and while he is falling he repeatedly says to calm himself down: 'So far everything went well, so far everything went well, so far everything went well…'. But the important thing is not the fall but the landing!"

In their version for the stage Yigit and Prlic speak about hatred; hatred for a world which pretends it hasn’t fallen. We are against violence, but it is boiling underneath the crust of hatred, anger and mourning.

Fifteen years after the riots in the suburbs of Paris, which were the source for Kassovitz’ filmic tale, more and more suddenly erupting fights between the police and a rebellious mob occur. Europe’s sleeping volcanoes become visible, as was the case with the violent outbursts in Greece in 2008.

The sirens are screeching the sound of power, both sides flex their muscles along with the "Bullen Beat" until being totally exhausted. The fingers in the eyeballs, the batons in the neck, the masses in commotion, ready to rise. In the streets of the battle there are clouds made of tear gas, in the underground fire is being coaxed for the next fight.

We have fallen, but have not yet arrived. In spite of the landing the depth of falling has not been reached. How deep are we still going to fall?

With the actors from "Ein Warngedicht", actor Christoph Bach, free cultural activist Danny Bruder and the musicians Volkan T. and Dissput, Branka Prlic and Tamer Yigit produce a soundtrack of protest.

The text of the production is based on the script of the film "Hate" by Mathieu Kassovitz
